Where our story began
OUR STORY
COMMUNITY BASKETBALL SINCE 1990
Rowville Basketball Club began with five teams and a simple goal: to provide the children of Rowville and Lysterfield with a local, community-based basketball club. Today, that same volunteer spirit supports more than 650 players across 95 teams.
READ OUR HISTORY
Rowville Basketball Club was formed in 1990 to provide the children of Rowville and Lysterfield with a local, community-based basketball club.
We started with five teams and grew over the next nine years to more than 35 teams competing in the Knox Association. In the summer of 2000, five teams began playing at Dandenong, with a further 36 teams continuing at Knox.
Over the next four years, the club continued to enter teams in both associations, growing to 13 teams at Dandenong and 39 at Knox by 2002. By 2004, the club had 37 teams at Dandenong and roughly the same number at Knox.
In 2004, the club decided to enter teams solely in one association. The Rockets teams at Knox, together with several smaller clubs, merged to form a new club known as Knox Allstars. In the summer season of 2004/05, Rockets entered 39 teams into the Dandenong Association.
As the club continued to grow, Rockets teams made up approximately 30% of the competition by 2020. To help maintain competitive basketball for our players, the club began entering teams in the Knox Association again.
The 2020 winter season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 summer season started late, but our teams were grateful to return to basketball across two associations.
The ongoing success of Rowville Rockets is a testament to its volunteers’ contributions.
