Welcome to Rowville Rockets Basketball Club

Rowville and Lysterfield community based basketball club.

Key Differences: Knox and Dandenong Competitions

DBA Light

Rangers representative players must play domestic at Dandenong.

Games are played at Dandenong Stadium, with some at Springers Leisure Centre in Cheltenham, and some local Schools during the winter season.

Currently the girls competition has very low participation levels.  (8-12 teams per age group), which is creating problems with grading and our ability to structure teams for best outcomes – e.g. fairness and development

Due to low participation numbers, there will be no G18 or G23 games running at Dandenong

The boys competition is strong and competitive.

Training is at Rowville Sports Academy

History

Rowville Basketball Club was formed in 1990 to offer the children of Rowville and Lysterfield a local, community based basketball club.

In 1990 we started with 5 teams and grew over the next 9 years to more than 35 teams competing in the Knox Association. In the Summer of 2000, 5 teams began playing at Dandenong with a further 36 teams continuing to play at Knox.

Over the next 4 years the club continued to enter teams in both associations. Growing to 13 teams at Dandenong and 39 at Knox by 2002. The club continued to grow quickly with 37 teams at Dandenong and roughly the same at Knox by 2004.

In 2004 the club decided to enter teams solely in one association. The Rockets teams at Knox along with several smaller clubs, merged to form a new club known as ‘Knox Allstars’. In the summer season of 2004/05 Rockets entered 39 teams into the Dandenong Association.

Due to the continued growth of the club, by 2020, Rockets teams made up to approximately 30% of the competition creating an effect of some grades being dominated by Rockets teams. The club began looking for a solution to help maintain a competitive competition for our players.

The 2020 winter season saw us enter teams into the Knox association again. Unfortunately, the season was cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Summer 2021 season started late but we were all grateful to be playing again in two associations.

The ongoing success of the club is a testament to the contribution of its volunteers.
